Description

KYN28-12 is one of the most widely used medium voltage cabinet types in industrial and utility substations. Our panels are configured from your single-line diagram and built and routine-tested in our Hangzhou factory.

KYN28-12 Metal-Clad Switchgear Overview

KYN28-12 is an indoor, armoured, withdrawable cabinet for 3.6–12 kV three-phase AC systems. Grounded metal barriers divide each panel into a circuit breaker compartment, a busbar compartment, a cable compartment and a low voltage instrument compartment. The vacuum circuit breaker sits on a truck that can be moved between service, test and withdrawn positions, so control and protection circuits can be tested without energising the main circuit, and the breaker can be removed quickly for maintenance.

Key Features

  • Full compartmentalisation – an internal fault in one compartment is contained and does not spread to the others.
  • Withdrawable vacuum breaker – long life, low maintenance and fast replacement.
  • Five-prevention interlocking – mechanical and electrical interlocks prevent racking a closed breaker, closing onto an earthed circuit and opening live compartments.
  • Automatic shutters – cover the fixed contacts when the breaker is withdrawn.
  • Pressure relief – vents arc gases away from the operator in the event of an internal arc.
  • Front operation and cable access – suits wall-mounted or free-standing line-ups depending on the design selected.
  • Digital protection and metering – mounted in the low voltage compartment with clear wiring and labelling.

Typical Ratings

Parameter Typical value
Rated voltage 3.6 / 7.2 / 12 kV
Rated frequency 50 / 60 Hz
Rated current of main busbar 630 A up to about 4000 A
Rated short-time withstand current Typically 16 kA to 40 kA (configuration dependent)
Enclosure protection IP4X enclosure, IP2X between compartments
Typical panel size (W × D × H) 800 or 1000 × 1500–1660 × 2300 mm
Standards IEC 62271-200, GB/T 3906

Values are typical for this cabinet type; the exact ratings of your panels are confirmed in our quotation and shown on the nameplate and type test documents.

Panel Functions Available

  • Incoming and outgoing feeder panels
  • Bus coupler and bus riser panels
  • Voltage transformer and metering panels
  • Transformer and motor feeder panels with dedicated protection
  • Capacitor bank feeders
  • Fused-contactor (F-C) panels for frequently switched motors

Applications

Factory and industrial park substations, mines and mineral processing plants, steel and metal works, water and wastewater treatment plants, commercial buildings and hospitals supplied at 10 kV, and auxiliary power systems in power plants. Installation and Maintenance

Panels are delivered in shipping sections with busbar links, earthing connections and installation instructions. The switch room needs a level floor or base frame, cable trenches, front and rear access clearances and a safe path for arc gases. In service, planned maintenance every three to five years — cleaning, torque checks on busbar joints, breaker timing and contact resistance tests and relay testing — keeps the equipment reliable for decades. Our after-sales team supplies spare breakers, parts and support.

Testing and Documentation

Each panel is routine-tested before shipment: power-frequency withstand voltage, main circuit resistance, mechanical operation and interlock checks, and secondary wiring and relay functional tests. You receive the single-line diagram, general arrangement and wiring drawings, test reports and operation and maintenance manuals.

Selection Tips

  • Match the short-circuit rating to the prospective fault level at the substation, with a margin for future network growth.
  • Plan busbar current for the total load plus expansion, not only today’s demand.
  • Decide wall-mounted or free-standing early, because it affects room size and cable access.
  • Choose the protection philosophy — overcurrent, earth fault, differential, motor or transformer protection — before the relay brand.
  • Check altitude and climate; installations above 1000 m or in very humid areas may need derating, heaters or special insulation.

Why Choose Danli

We build medium voltage line-ups together with the low voltage switchboards, motor control centres and automation cabinets that follow them, so protection, interlocks and communication are coordinated from the transformer to the last motor. All panels are assembled and tested in our own factory, documentation is provided in English for export projects, and our engineers support installation, commissioning and maintenance throughout the life of the equipment. See our certifications and company information.

Typical Line-Up Example

A factory substation supplied from a 10 kV utility line might use a line-up of seven or eight panels: an incoming panel with the main breaker and protection relay, a metering panel with voltage transformers and revenue meters, a bus coupler if there are two supplies, two or three transformer feeders supplying the 10/0.4 kV transformers, a motor feeder for a large compressor or pump, and a capacitor bank feeder for power-factor correction. All panels share one busbar system and a common control voltage, and their relays can be linked to the plant SCADA so operators see breaker status, alarms and energy data in one place.

Frequently Asked Questions

What voltage is KYN28-12 rated for?

KYN28-12 is designed for 3.6–12 kV AC systems at 50/60 Hz, most commonly 6 kV and 10 kV distribution networks.

What is the difference between KYN28-12 and KYN61-40.5?

KYN28-12 is for systems up to 12 kV, while KYN61-40.5 is for 35 kV systems up to 40.5 kV and is larger because of the bigger insulation clearances.

Which circuit breakers can be fitted?

Withdrawable vacuum circuit breakers are standard. We fit breakers from leading brands according to your specification and rating.

Can KYN28-12 panels be monitored remotely?

Yes. Digital protection relays and multifunction meters can send breaker status, alarms and measurements to SCADA over Modbus, IEC 61850 or other protocols.
