Automation Software: PLC, HMI and SCADA

Danli develops the automation software that makes control systems work: PLC programs, HMI screens and SCADA applications for water, energy, mining and manufacturing projects. Software is written to a clear control philosophy, structured for easy maintenance, and fully tested in our factory with the cabinets it will run in.

What We Develop

LayerTypical work
PLC programmingSequences, interlocks, PID loops, alarms, motor and valve control blocks, communication to drives and meters
HMI developmentProcess graphics, operator controls, alarm pages, trends and recipe or setpoint screens
SCADAMulti-site overviews, historians, reports, user management and remote-station telemetry
Data integrationLinks to MES, ERP or cloud platforms through OPC UA, Modbus TCP or databases

How We Write Maintainable Programs

  • Standard languages – programs follow the languages defined in IEC 61131-3, mainly Ladder Diagram, Function Block Diagram and Structured Text.
  • Reusable function blocks – one tested block for each type of motor, valve or analog signal, used consistently across the project.
  • Clear naming and comments – tag names match drawings and the I/O list so faults are easy to trace.
  • Consistent HMI design – the same colours, symbols and alarm behaviour on every screen, so operators react correctly under pressure.
  • Version control and backups – every release is recorded, and final programs are handed over with source files.

Testing Before Delivery

Software is tested in two stages. First, logic is checked with simulation against the control narrative. Then, during the factory acceptance test, the program runs on the real PLC inside the finished cabinet while every I/O point, sequence, alarm and HMI function is checked with simulated field signals. Problems found here cost minutes to fix; the same problems on site can cost days.

Typical Applications

  • Water and wastewater – pump station control, filter backwash sequences, chemical dosing loops and multi-site SCADA with telemetry.
  • Power distribution – breaker status, metering and alarm collection, load shedding and automatic transfer schemes.
  • Mining and metals – conveyor sequencing, interlocks, drive control and energy monitoring.
  • Manufacturing – machine and line control, recipe management, production counters and OEE data.
  • Building services – pump, fan and HVAC control panels linked to a building management system.

Our Development Process

  1. Control philosophy – we agree operating modes, sequences, interlocks, alarms and setpoints with you in writing.
  2. Software design – program structure, tag database, screen navigation and communication map.
  3. Development – PLC logic, HMI and SCADA built using our standard tested libraries.
  4. Simulation and FAT – testing with simulated signals, then on the real hardware with you present if required.
  5. Commissioning – on-site loop checks, tuning of control loops and optimisation with real process conditions.
  6. Handover – final source code, backups, user manuals and operator training.

Writing the control philosophy before coding is the step most often skipped on small projects — and the one that prevents most disagreements and rework later.

Alarm Management and Operator Experience

Too many alarms are as dangerous as too few. We classify alarms by priority, avoid duplicate and nuisance alarms, and give every alarm a clear message telling the operator what happened and what to check. Screens show the most important information first, with consistent colours for running, stopped and fault states, so operators can understand the plant at a glance. Trends and event logs make it easy to see what happened before a trip, which shortens fault finding for maintenance teams.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which PLC platforms do you program?

We program the major international platforms, including Siemens (TIA Portal) and Allen-Bradley (Studio 5000), and others according to the project standard.

Do we receive the source code?

Yes. Final PLC, HMI and SCADA source files, passwords and backups are handed over at the end of the project.

Can you modify or upgrade existing programs?

Yes. We can review, document and extend existing programs, or migrate them from obsolete controllers to current platforms.

Do you offer remote support after commissioning?

Yes. With secure remote access agreed with your IT team, our engineers can help with troubleshooting and changes.
